Texas Hold’em Poker Legends

Stu Ungar is considered by most to the greatest NL Texas hold em Poker gambler ever.

The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in ‘53 and began betting poker prior to reaching his teens.

The young bettor began betting gin and at the age of ten had won his 1st gin tournament, while on holiday with his parents. By the time he turned 14 the little poker maestro had become a pro and dropped out of school.

In 1954 Stu Ungar entered the record books by succeeding ten thousand dollars in a gin rummy tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still remains in New York today.

The quick talking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic greats such as Joe Namath and Kobe Bryant. Stu Ungar had a genuine skill for wagering poker but in spite of his successes in Holdem poker, he favored betting gin.

Stu once said that there may a number of day be a greater NL Texas holdem player than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a greater gin player.

In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the global map as one of the very best Texas hold em Poker gamblers in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the 1st time. Extraordinarily it was the first time he had entered the tournament.

The subsequent year he dismissed any suggestions that it had been a fluke, by effectively defending his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his third World poker championship.

But this poker master also fought with drug abuse and a year following winning his 3rd title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had died from a cardiac event which was brought on by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had started out with absolutely nothing but his ability and expertise for the game which made this poker great a millionaire many times over.
