Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
