Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
