Ah, the steam. If a poker enthusiast states at no time to have peered down the barrel of an approaching poker steam – they are either lying or they have not been wagering for a long time. This does not indicate of course that every player has been on steam before, some players have great willpower and take their losses as a defeat and leave it at that. To be a brilliant poker player, it’s absolutely crucial to appraise your successes and your defeats in the same way – with no emotion. You play the game the same way you did following a tough loss like you would after winning a huge hand. Most of the poker pros are not charmed by tilting following an awful defeat as they are incredibly seasoned and you should be to.
You must understand that you cannot win each hand you are in, regardless if you are the front runner. Hands that typically cause players to go on tilt are hands that you were the favorite or at a minimum believed you were up until you were side swiped and you burned a gigantic portion of your stack. Awful defeats are going to happen. Accept that idea right now, I will say it again – if your siblings enjoy cards, if your father plays cards, if your grandpa plays cards – They have all had poor defeats sometime. It’s an unavoidable effect of playing Holdem, or really any kind of poker.
After all we are assumingly (most of us) playing poker for one purpose – to acquire $$$$, it does make sense that we will bet appropriately to maximize winnings. Now let us say you are up $100 off of a $100 deposit, and you suffer a big blow in a NL game and your stack is at $120. You have squandered $80 in a round where you should have picked up $200two hundred dollars when you went all-in on the flop and enjoyed a ten to one advantage. And that guy! He banged you out on the river? – Well stop right here. This is a quintessential opportunity for a fresh bettor to begin tilting. They just lost too much $$$$ on one round that they should have won and they’re pissed
