Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors around the world. While competing in web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
