Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
