No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
